SUCCESS ... ACHIEVING MY GOAL

I finally finished the 11 quilts for the grandbabies... finishing the hand stitching on the binding of the last quilt on the 23rd. of December.
I learned to enjoy the process, and the creativeity aspects of quilting.
With a new year comes new goals... finish more of my UFO's , learn to do free motion quilting with my machine and use up as many of my scraps as possible before we move. I havn't thrown any scrap out.. so needless to say I have lots, it should be fun to see what I can do with them.
And of course take a few more classes before we are gone from this area. I'm looking forward to this year!!
Oh! also learn to take better pictures ... some of the pictures to follow are not very good .

HANNA'S - CHRISTMAS QUILT - 2010

Hanna's quilt is a "Turning Twenty" variation design, quilt pattern by Trica Cribbs. I chose her flowers to keep the round shape of her favorite, the polka dot fabric .

OLIVIA'S & WILLOW'S -CHRISTMAS QUILTS -2010

Olivia's

Willow

Willow's and Olivia's quilts are the same pattern using the same fabrics, only changing the border colours to their favorite colour choices.
Their quilt is based on a quilt "Puzzel Play" using a brick block arranged pinwheel style.
Found in Better Homes & Gardens "Quilts & More" spring 2009 magazine. I chose their applique based on a fabric with the same twirl as on the flower.

EMMA'S - CHRISTMAS QUILT -2010

Emma's quilt just evolved... I knew I wanted to do pinwheels and rail fence blocks...The pattern took shape on my design wall as I played with different positions of the blocks. Her applique follows the pinwheel block with the pinwheel appliqued flowers. The hardest thing about Emma's was working with the colours, as I have a harder time with Yellow...but it worked really well with the raspberry pink because of the fabrics, I was able to find. Emma's was a fun one to do.

LINCOLN'S - CHRISTMAS QUILT- 2010

Lincoln's quilt is the same pattern as Jackson's "Big & Bold" by Daniela Stoot. These blocks are a bit bigger so no border was added. Jenie wants to do Lincoln's room in knights... so I added a sword and sheild applique to his.

JACKSON'S -CHRISTMAS QUILT - 2010

Jackson's is a pattern "Big & Bold" by Daniela Stoot.
It's pretty simple and works up quickly... Jackson loves sports, and played both Soccer and T-Ball this past year... so I appliqued a ball and bat and soccer ball to personalize his quilt.

BRYTON'S - CHRISTMAS QUILT -2010

Bryton's quilt is my version of a quilt I saw hanging in a quilt shop in Raymond. I used 4 snow ball blocks to make the posies... with the green center triangles being larger than the outer background triangles around the assorted pink squares. The applique is a "B" in one corner so as not to take away from any of the posies.

LILY'S - CHRISTMAS QUILT -2010

Lily's dot to dot quilt is an "Around the block" quilt pattern found in a Better Homes & Garden "Quilts & More" magazine Spring 2009. I used as many polka dot fabrics as I could find then framed it with a black and white polka dot fabric border. Her name applique is a big polka dot in the same fabric as border with dot fabric letters. It's pretty busy and bright just like this little girl.

STONE'S - CHRISTMAS QUILT -2010

Stone's quilt an "Eye Spy" quilt was a block swappers block
class from 2009. Then assembled as we chose ... the applique took about as much time to do or more than the blocks. It was worth it because it really set the theme of the quilt and made a good frame. The binding continued the colours of the letters around the quilt so not to detract.
It is a busy quilt for an extremely busy boy... whats more he really liked it too!

AMELIA'S - CHRISTMAS QUILT - 2010

Amelia's quilt ... a class mystery baby quilt.
"A Patch Work Puzzle" by Judy Hopkins.

ANISTON'S- CHRISTMAS QUILT 2010

Aniston's quilt:
A panel I cut apart adding other fabrics to match.Changing the large white rectangle from being a centered block to an off set block. Then adding small sashing strips to each of the small blocks and adding them along 2 of the sides, keeping the off set design.
The back is a thick fuzzy cuddly throw, I did not add any batting, but quilted by machine to keep in place. Then brought the back around to the front and sewed down by machine so it will stand up to lots of washing.

ARGYLE CRIB QUILT...MARCH 2010

Jessica wanted a crib quilt for Aniston that matched her crib bumper pad ties... a few months before we had seen this pattern for an "Argyle" baby quilt. With squares on point and Ric Rac to create the "Argyle" design.. It turned out really cute and much bigger than planned... But Aniston won't be in a crib for ever... and it matches the colours in Bryton's room, for when they eventually share a room .

CHARM SQUARES...

Finished this quilt in April to complete at least one UFO project this year.
A charm square quilt... so easy no piecing or matching.
The squares are actually held in place using a glue stick ... I pinned too... just didn't want them to move. Then you sew a straight line down the quilt along the edge of the squares, turn and go back the other way... do this for all four sides and they are sewn on and quilted... just need to bind. Then I tea dyed it and washed to get a more used rumpled look.
It was fun to do but i found it hard to keep every block lined up perfectly... and maybe that was not the way it should look any way
